A WELL-RIDDEN RACE SEES THE SPR 500 ON THE PODIUM FOR THE FIRST TIME.
WELL DONE TO BEN AND SUPPORTING TEAM.
Happy with how the weekend has gone at the Skerries 100. Saturday was tricky with changeable conditions all day so sessions ran untimed with grids going off championship positions which meant back of the grid starts on the 600. We managed a dry session on the Steadplan Primus Racing Honda 500/4 setting the 5th fastest time of a 1.58. The club decided to run this race from the practice times. Race day Sunday saw the sun shining all day. First open race got red flagged, hope your not too battered Forest. 600 race next was good, lapping at 1.42, a couple of seconds faster than last year but had to pull in end of lap 3 due to a stone punching the radiator and gearbox jumping into next gear. We thought we had found the issue of gear linkage and we had repaired the radiator but going out for the Grand Final the gearbox issue wasnt sorted so pulled in end of lap 1. The 500/unlimited race was out highlight. On the roads in Ireland the 500/4 has to go in the unlimited classic class up against the bigger bikes with a mixed grid with the 500’s even though speed difference isn’t much compared to the top bhoys on the 500 twins. A good start saw me 4th on the road through the first few corners, then made a pass into p3 on lap 4 after a good race with Ed Manly who unfortunately got black flagged straight after. A lonely finish to the race but 3rd place in class and on the road was a good strong result. Pretty sure the lap time was under the 500 lap record too thats stood for a number of years. Highs and lows this weekend, but we craic on now and return for Armoy is a couple of weeks time.
